Sediment Grain Size Analyses

Sediment samples for grainsize analysis are collected using a petit Ponar sediment grab or direct core sampling by divers. The sediment grab is equipped with a drop video camera for obtaining imagery of the substrate and assurance of grab sample quality.

Sediment grainsize analyisis for habitat mapping and ground-truthing is performed using a Micromeritics Optisizer 5400 PSDA particle size analyzer. This optical device measures particle diameters ranging from 40 µm to 20 mm and generates particle size distribution results.
